Director of Corporate Development
Elizabeth Barno is Director of Corporate Development at Accion, where she focuses on corporate governance, external communications, and company growth initiatives. Ms. Barno also leads Accion’s marketing efforts and supports commercial TILE business development. Previously, she was the Chief of Staff to Accion’s CEO, focusing on scaling the business, aligning the company as complexity increased, and strengthening systems and processes. She continues to work closely with the CEO and leadership team today.
Prior to Accion Systems, Ms. Barno was the Community Director of Greentown Labs, the nation’s largest cleantech startup incubator. As Community Director, she worked with over 150 pre-Series A hardware startups on operations and growth challenges. Her role was to intimately understand the unique challenges of early tough-tech hardware startups and develop incubator programs to support their growth. During Ms. Barno’s time at Greentown Labs, the member startups raised over $300M in funding and hired over 500 employees in the greater-Boston area.
As the first employee of Greentown Labs, Ms. Barno oversaw the physical growth of the incubator from 6,000 sq.ft. to over 100,000 sq.ft. over two expansions. As an operational leader at Greentown Labs, Ms. Barno ran new startup recruitment and applications, business operations, operational fundraising, startup programming, and led all incubator relationship management with member and alumni startups.
Ms. Barno holds a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University and was awarded Boston Globe’s 25 Under 25, Forbes’ 30 Under 30, and was a finalist for MassTLC’s Emerging Executive of the Year.
